กก Pianguan Pass Built in 1390 during the Ming dynasty, Pianguan Pass, located in present Pianguan County, Shanxi province, is where the Inner and Outer Walls rejoin. It links up with the Mt. Guancen in the east, faces the Yellow River in the west, connects with Mongolia in the north, and leads to Yanmenguan Pass in the south. As one of the "Outer Three Passes" (the rest two are Ningwuguan Pass and Yanmenguan Pass) along the Great Wall, since ancient times, Pianguan Pass has been an important strategic point coveted by all strategists. The extant pass was built in the Ming dynasty, and after repeat repair and expansion, it formed the size we see today. Four supplementary walls and over 200 beacon towers and watchtower were built at Pianguan Pass at that time to fortify the defence here, although most of them disappeared today.
